Back Bone – The main support for your broadband.
We all know that in certain network topologies, the use of wires and cables make the whole setup complete. This can be copper wires or fiber-optic coaxial cables. It acts as the back bone of data transmissions; like some sort of medium where information passes through from one computer to another, making it possible for computers to communicate and share each other’s resources like printers. Not until the increasingly becoming popular type of connection was introduced to the market to compete with other top sellers like DSL and Cable. It is called wireless. Now what makes wireless different?
Wireless refers to a type of broadband Internet connection where there is no need to connect wires and cables to computers and the whole network itself as it makes use of radio waves and/or microwaves to establish communications. It also provides an “always on" connection, which means that broadband connection is always available for as long as it is still within the coverage of the wireless network.
The most commonly used wireless network is called Wi-Fi, short for wireless fidelity. All computers with Wi-Fi functionalities can be used to connect to the Internet. It uses the specifications in the 802.11 family, a type of wireless local area network (WLAN) developed by a group of talented individuals that compose the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
The back bone of wireless Internet service or Wi-Fi is the hot spots. Hot spots refer to the access points where online access is allowed for as long as it is still within the zone of coverage provided by the server antenna. The hot spot is the determining factor for possible subscribers to switch to wireless because of the question of area availability and coverage. This affects the overall performance of the service for obvious reasons, a back bone function that is. The farther you get from the coverage area, the slower it might become, as there is a huge possibility of getting a poor connection.
But then again, Wi-Fi has been a popular choice in many businesses, schools, and agencies as a replacement for wired LAN. Even many hotels, airports and fast-food chains offer access to Wi-Fi networks. For home users, this technology has become accepted due to the gaining popularity of laptops.
Wireless connection is really promising and is no doubt, one of the most talked-about online services today. If you are getting tired of the poor performance of your ISP, then you may want to experience something new and switch immediately. Go wireless!
